Title I Reading
Title I Reading is a Federally funded program that is provided for students who need extra support in Reading and Writing in a small group setting. We offer Interactive Writing and Guided Reading Plus as our small group interventions in Kindergarten and First Grade.
Interactive Writing...
Interactive Writing is for students who are lagging behind their peers and writing at the emergent to early levels. We meet for 30 minutes daily with a focus on concepts about print, communicating group/individual messages, saying words slowly to hear and record sounds in words. We use an ABC chart to become fluent on letter identification/formation. We will also use a personal dictionary and work on building our high frequency words. We will also read poems and simple books together.
Guided Reading Plus...
Guided Reading plus is a small group intervention for children who are lagging behind their peers in reading. We meet for 30 minutes daily and follow a two day format. Phase one includes fluent writing, phonological awareness/phonics (letter or word work), and Guided Reading (reading a book at the appropriate level for the group). Phase two includes Reading Assessment, Independent Reading, and writing about reading in a journal or using a text map. Guided Reading Plus is designed to promote monitoring, self correcting, fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary while reading.
