Spelling Practice

Spelling Practice

Trick words cannot be tapped out.  To practice trick words we're going to use our gross motor memory by using the following steps:

Start with one of your trick words.

1,)  Sky Write:  Stand and extend your arm (your writing arm) straight out pointing with two fingers.  Say the word, and then spell the word as you make big letters with your extended arm.  Then say the word again.  Be sure to keep your arm straight as a pencil.  Write the word again, in the same manner, but with your eyes closed.  Picture the word as you say the word and spell it while making letters in the air.  Pretend to write the word with purple or red paint coming from your fingers.

2.)  Table Write:  Write the word with your finger on the table.  Say the word, write it with your fingers while spelling orally.  Say the word again.  Now do it again with your eyes closed imagining the letters as you write them with your finger.

3.)  Arm Write:  Write the word with your finger on the inside of your other arm.  Say the word, write it with your fingers while spelling orally.  Say the word again.  Now do it again with your eyes closed imagining the letters as you write them with your finger.

4.)  Write:  Say the word, write it on a piece of paper while spelling orally.  Say the word again and look to see if it looks right.

Now do your next word :)!!
