Monday:     -  Guided Reading story using the following strategies . . . = 5 min.

                           *  Tap for words you can sound out.  

                           *  Some words you just have to know because they are sight/trick words.

                           *  Look at the first sound of an unknown word and the picture as you                                are repeatedly saying the first sound and thinking about what you have                                been reading.

                           *  Tap out the first 3 letters of a word and blend them together                                while thinking about what you have been reading.  

                          *  Skip the words and read to the end of the sentence and then go back and                               see if you can figure out the word.  

                          *  Some words are rule breakers, so if the short sound doesn't                               work then try the long sound, and vice versa.  

                  -  Short, paper phonics story . . . = 3min. 

                  -  Spelling practice . . . = 10 min. 

                          *  First 6 words should be easy and you should only need to work on them                               today and Thursday.  Say the word and s/he taps while writing out                               the word.  

                          *  When you get to the challenge words, these are the words you will need                               to work on every night.  These are the sight/trick words and cannot be                               tapped.  Your child will need to use the letter names to spell them.                              Complete the following activities for each word (they are used to doing this                              in                              class):

                                   -  Sky Write: with a stiff elbow and using their writing hand spell each                                       word orally as they write them in the sky.  Say the word.  

                                   -  Table Write:  using their pointer finger on their writing hand, spell                                        each word orally as they write them on the table.  Say the word.  

                                   -  Arm Write:  using their pointer finger on their writing hand, spell                                       each word orally as they write it on the inside of their other arm. Say                                       the                                       word.  

                                   -  Write the word as they orally spell the word.  

                  -  Fundations Work . . . = 5-10 min.

 

Tuesday:     -  Guided Reading story using Monday's strategies . . . = 5 min.  

                     -  Short, paper phonics story . . . = 3 min. 

                     -  Read and time sight words (did you beat your old time?) . . . 10 min.

                    -  Spelling practice . . . = 5 min.

                          *  Assuming there were no issues with the first 6 words on Monday, only                               practice the 3-4 challenge words with the process above (sky write, table                               write, arm write, etc.)   

                          *  Fundations Work . . . = 5 min. 

 

Wednesday: -  Guided Reading story using Monday's strategies.  

                      -  Short, paper phonics story . . . = 3 min. 

                      -  Read and time sight words (did you beat your old time?) . . . = 10 min.

                      -  Spelling practice . . . = 5 min. 

                            *  Assuming there were no issues with the first 6 words on Monday, only                                 practice the 3-4  challenge words with the process above (sky write,                                 table write, arm write, etc.).

                      -  Fundations Work . . . = 5 min. 

 

Thursday:     -  Guided Reading story using the strategies from Monday . . . = 5 min. 

                      -  Short, paper phonics story . . . 3 min. 

                      -  Read and time sight words (did you beat your old time?) . . . = 10 min.  

                      -  Spelling practice . . . = 5 min. 

                            *  Practice the first 6 words by you saying the word as s/he says the word,                                 taps and writes it.    

                            *  Practice the challenge words by you saying the word as s/he orally spells                                 each word as they write it.  Practice only the words s/he continues to                                 have difficulty with using Monday's method (sky writing, table writing,                                 arm writing, etc.).

                      -  Fundations Work . . . = 5 min. 

 

Friday:          -  Guided Reading story using Monday's strategies . . . = 5 min. 

                      -  Story on paper . . . = 5-10 min.
