Field Goal- 2 points
Free Throw- 1 point

DEFENSE-
Zone Defense- Each player is responsible for an area of the court/not a specific player.
Zone Defense forces the other team to shoot from outside.  there are several defense formations (1-2-2, 2-1-2, 1-3-1, 2-3, ETC)  Offense against a zone defense should include quick passing, very little dribbling, and good outside shooting.

Man-To-Man Defense- Each player is responsible for guarding another player on the other team.  Try to stay between the person you are guarding and the basket at all times.  Man-to-Man is better than zone when the opponent has good outside shooters.

Defensive Positioning while rebounding is called Blocking Out.

SKILLS-
PASSING-  A good pass should be aimed between the receiver's waist and shoulders.  The receiver should step toward the ball to catch it.
Chest Pass-  Short quick pass used most often.
Bounce Pass-  Used to pass under a defensive player's extended arm.
Two Handed Overhead Pass-  Used to pass over a defensive player.
One Handed Overhead Pass-  used to pass a long distance.  Also called a baseball pass.

SHOOTING-  One handed set shot should be executed with feet shoulder width apart, knees bent, one hand under the ball with other hand on side for balance, and shoot from in front of the forehead (not from the side of the head).
Lay up Shot-  Is one of the highest percentage shots and is the best shot after a drive.  The lay-up is executed with one arm extended to bank the ball off the backboard, take off from the side of the basket, and the take off foot is the opposite of the shooting hand.

DRIBBLING-  Use finger and wrist action (not palm), bend knees and bend at the waist, look up, bounce ball below the waist, and push ball slightly ahead.  Change dribbling hands to get around an opponent or to change direction.

GUARDING-  Move with sliding steps on the balls of the feet, bend knees, and arms in front, moving to mirror the ball.  Stay between your opponent and the basket and guard them tight when they have the ball or are just about to get it.
