A Week Dedicated to Our Wonderful Teachers and Staff

Seven Faculty and Staff Honored at Excellence in Education Banquet

Educators have an extremely difficult and challenging job, and this job has never been more difficult or challenging than it is today. With the increasing pressures that have emerged in a rapidly changing profession, there has never been a better time to recognize the people who make a difference in the lives of our children each and every day.

The first full week of May is Teacher Appreciation Week, an event that is being celebrated across the country. We join this celebration in recognition of our wonderful faculty and staff in Peru Elementary School District 124.

As part of that celebration, seven of our fabulous faculty and staff were recently recognized at the LaSalle County Excellence in Education Banquet, sponsored by the Regional Office of Education. Congratulations to Dana Dawson, Abby Trigg, Phil Whaley, Marcie Koehler, Kay Brannon, Ellyn Hylla and Lynn Siska for their dedication and commitment to our students. Mrs. Brannon, Mrs. Hylla and Mrs. Siska are retiring from long careers dedicated to our students. Congratulations to these three! Their picture is shown above.

Our faculty and staff members are a dynamic, hard working, professional and caring group of educators. They are very passionate about providing our children with an excellent education and doing whatever it takes to ensure the success of our students.

Please join me in taking a moment to say thank you to our wonderful teachers and staff. We are very thankful for their dedication and commitment to our students.

Abby Steinberg Selected as IAJHSC Northwest District Representative

Student Council Members Attend State Convention

Congratulations to Parkside student Abby Steinberg, who was selected as the Northwest District Representative for the Illinois Association of Junior High Student Councils during the recent IAJHSC Convention in Springfield. Abby will represent a large number of schools across the northwest region of the state, and is the first Parkside Student Council member ever selected for this honor.

Fourteen Parkside Student Council members (pictured above) and sponsors Heather Smigel and Judy Cary attended the two day convention, which was held on April 20-21. In addition to hearing from excellent speakers and sharing ideas and learning from other student council members across the state, our students were also involved with raising funds for various charities and paid a visit to the Illinois State Capitol building.

Congratulations to Abby and the Parkside Student Council members and sponsors for representing our school district and community so well!
