We are looking forward to a terrific year and I am very excited to have the opportunity to serve as principal at Washington and continue to be part of such an outstanding district.  Many changes have occurred over the summer to prepare for the school year and transition from Northview to Washington.  In addition to the building changes, a brand new playground has been added on the south side of the building.  It is beautiful and will provide students with an opportunity for outdoor fun with their classmates at recess times.  Students in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade attend Washington School, totaling approximately 300 students.  Our highly qualified and dedicated staff includes 15 regular education teachers, 4 special education teachers, teachers in the areas of gifted education, physical education, art, and music, a reading specialist/learning interventionist, librarian, school psychologist, nurse, instructional technology aide, and 5 paraprofessionals.  In addition, there are three custodians that maintain the building and keep it gleaming and the secretary keeps the office running smoothly.

We pride ourselves in providing a quality education including a core curriculum at Washington School that is aligned to the state standards.  The core curriculum consists of mathematics, social science, language arts, reading, and science.  This year we are implementing a new reading series, Rigby - Literacy by Design.  We are looking forward to the balanced literacy approach to teaching reading and the focus on guided reading groups to meet all students needs.  Students are also able to participate in physical education, music, art, and computers.  The environmental club, intramurals, project success, and battle of the books are some of the extra curricular activities available to students. Students take the Measures of Academic Progress test twice throughout the year to measure student progress and identify the skills and concepts individual students have learned.  In addition, the results are used to make data-driven decisions at the classroom, school, and district levels.

The student – centered environment along with our commitment to education and high expectations for all students, contributes to improving students’ lives and increasing their potential for future success.

We look forward to working with you hand in hand and encourage you to contact us with any questions you may have throughout the year.
