Northview School: General Information: Project Success

Northview General Information - Project Success

By Sara McDonald

Northview School is very excited to be able to offer the after school program, Project Success to Second Grade Students.  Project Success is coordinated by the Roosevelt Teachers in order to assist students in completing homework, organizing their materials, studying for tests, and working on curricular areas that they may be struggling in.  Students are referred by teachers.  Parent requests for students to attend will not be accepted because of space.  We hope the program will help the students develop better study habits, raise their grades, and ultimately help them to become more successful in school.

Here are some specifics about the program that are important for you to know:

  1. The program will run on Monday through Thursday from 3:30 – 4:05 p.m. beginning on Monday, November 3, 2008.  It will not meet on school holidays or early dismissal days.
  2. Parents, guardians, or grandparents who are picking their child up at 4:05 p.m. are asked to please park on Sixth Street by the front entrance (flag pole).  Students will be dismissed at 4:05 p.m. from that front door.
  3. If your child is walking home, they will be dismissed at 4:05 p.m. to walk home.
  4. If your child is going to the YMCA program, they will be sent downstairs to the school gym at 4:05 p.m.
  5. If your child will miss Project Success, but are at school that day, they will need a written excuse from their parent.  This does not apply if you have stated already on the permission slip that there are days that they will miss consistently.  The teachers are already aware of this!

Please keep in mind that this program should not take the place of parent help with school work or homework.  All of us at Northview School believe that parents are a very important part of the success of your child academically and we still want you to take an active role in checking homework and reading with your child at home.  In order to better help your child in Project Success, we are asking for your help.  We ask that you do the following things:

  1. Please review your child’s homework on a nightly basis.
  2. Please check your child’s assignment notebook on a nightly basis.
  3. Read to or with your child every night for at least 15 minutes.

We feel that Project Success will be very beneficial to the students and hope you will feel the same.  If you have any questions at all about Project Success, do not hesitate to contact the classroom teacher or call the school office at 223-2567.
