Reading and Language Arts
This year we have a brand-new reading series called Literacy by Design. This series uses the balanced literacy approach to teach reading and writing. We will begin the year with whole group instruction and move forward to both small and whole group work.
Program Set Up
Literacy by Design is set up with 10 day themes. We generally complete the themes in 9-10 days. There are 2 spelling lists per theme (week 1 and week 2). The themes are divided between Social Studies and Science topics, switching every 2 themes. On the final day of the theme, students take the theme assessment, along with the Week 2 Spelling list.
