We are getting ready for a SuPeR year of learning and discovery! Children will experience a variety of hands-on activities to fully engage them in their education.

Responsibility
Our rules are very simple, but it helps us to be the best learners and listeners while we are at school. They are:
1. Be Respectful: Listen carefully and raise your hand.
2. Be Responsible: Come to school prepared, ready to learn and have fun!
3. Be Safe: Keep your hands, feet, and other objects to yourself.
Star management is used in our classroom. Each child begins at the top. One verbal warning is given for breaking the rules in the classroom. After that, if the child continues to break the rules, he or she will become a “falling star” moving their star to the middle, which means they will lose 5 minutes of their recess. If the disruption continues, he/she will move their star to the bottom, and the entire recess/play time will be taken away. When or if this occurs, you will be notified.
Classroom Books
We have already begun creating our very own classroom books! You will notice in First Grade that we do a lot of writing. Our children are awesome at writing and illustrating! Students will be bringing these class books home for you to look at. When the book comes home, please read with your child and send it back the next school day. There will always be a “parents comments” page, so feel free to write our little authors a note. They LOVE reading your reaction to their hard work!
Spelling Rewards
We will have a spelling test on the last school day of each week. When you child receives a 100%he/she will be given a sticker to place on their spelling chart. Once they have received 10, a small reward will be given. After 20 or more, they will be rewarded with a special lunch in the classroom with Miss Graham. They will eat their cold lunch or eat hot lunch and then finish with a special dessert from me! If you oppose to any of these rewards, please contact me. You will be notified of this special lunch.

After School Pick-Up
If your child is going home a different way than usual, please send a signed, dated note with your child’s name written on it.
Readers Wanted!
If you have the chance, we are ALWAYS looking for guest readers! If you are unable to come due to work, we also welcome grandparents! If you would like to read to our class, please contact me! We can work around your schedule!
“SuPeR StUdEnT” of the week
We will begin “star student” of the week. I will begin by choosing a student very soon (on Fridays) then that student will have all of the following week to prepare for a show and tell, as well as reading a book to the class! This will happen throughout the school year for each child. Parents will receive additional information when their child is chosen. The students as chosen in random order all will get a turn.
