Book 2

In 6th grade social studies, students will take an educational journey around the world learning about various aspects of different countries. As students travel from continent to continent they will explore the geography and culture of the different societies that inhabit these countries. Prior to students travel, they engage in various map skills training activities, where they will gain many useful skills to help them navigate this large planet that we call Earth.

Grading:

The overall grade in class is based on a point system: total number of points earned out of the total number of points possible throughout the quarter.

Daily Geography – These are warm-up activities & questions that help the students prepare for the daily lesson or might draw on previously learned knowledge.

Homework – Assignments will be turned in and checked regularly. Homework will help students build and practice on learned classroom knowledge.

Quizzes – Quizzes (Vocabulary/Map/Chapter) will be given periodically to check student understanding.

Test & Projects – A test or technology projects will be given at the end of units to check the overall understanding of the material. Test study guides will be given 3-4 days in advance.

Participation – Effort and participation are important elements in being successful in most classes. Involvement in classroom questioning and discussion helps most students “get more” out of the overall class experience. Participation will be recorded daily/weekly based on lesson activity.
