Attendance

Choir is a class, and just as you cannot say, “Hmm, I don’t feel like going to Math today,” you can not chose when you do and do not want to come to choir.

You are required to be at every rehearsal unless you are absent from school.

I will excuse you from rehearsal if you were absent and need to make up a quiz or test during your study hall.  That is the only guaranteed time you can miss choir.

If you would like to request to get out of rehearsal, you have to do the following:

1.    Come to Mr. Foust at the beginning of study hall and ask.  Do not send your friend, do not tell him the next day.

2.    Mr. Foust will decide whether or not you may be excused.

3.    If your reason for being excused was because of last-minute projects or extra homework, Mr. Foust will go to your teacher right after school and ask them if you could have completed that homework at a time other than study hall.

4.    If the answer from your teacher is “Yes,” you will receive zero points for that day.

The only thing you need to bring to choir every day is a pencil!

Grades

Participation 50%

As stated on the first page, choir is a class like any other which must be attended.  Each student will receive points for every rehearsal which they not only attend, but in which they actively participate.

Score Marking 25%

Throughout rehearsals Mr. Foust will tell you mark certain instructions in your music (this is why you must always bring a pencil).   At the end of the semester, Mr. Foust will check your score for these very important directions.

One Minute Theory 25%

You are expected to complete a 60-second written assignment at the beginning of each rehearsal.  These short exercises focus on the fundamentals of reading music.

Behavior

The same rules of behavior and proper student conduct apply just as they do in every other academic class.   Please refer to the Parkside Student Handbook for more information.

What to Wear

It is important, even in middle school, that a choir takes pride and looks professional during their concerts.  Dress for a choir performance like you would for a really fancy wedding full of judgmental relatives.
