ACCELERATED READER

Each nine weeks you will be expected to read 25 points from the Accelerated Reader list. The book MUST have a reading level of 6th grade or higher. All books must have teacher approval first.

Silent reading will be allowed every Friday during Literature class. You will be expected to continue with outside reading on your own. After reading a book you will take an A.R. test in your HOMEROOM.   Remember, you only get one chance to take the test!!!!!! (And, the movies don’t always cover the same points as the book does. So make sure you read the book.)

You may earn a 50% score on one A.R. test each quarter and will be given 1 point towards your Accelerated Reader grade.

Be sure to report your test results for each book before the due date given, usually one week before the end of that quarter. You may apply extra points to the next nine weeks or use them as extra credit points for that quarter, if you earn more than 25 points.

If you earn 25 points each of the first three quarters, you may read any book of your choosing the 4th quarter.  You will automatically earn a 100% for your 4th quarter Accelerated Reader grade.

The Accelerated Reading grade will count as 15% of your final Literature grade each nine weeks. During several of the four quarters, you will be able to take an A.R. test over a novel being read in class. The remaining points will depend on what reading you choose to do on your own. You will be expected to read at least ONE additional book besides the one read in class.

Grades will be given on the following basis:
