Grade Science
Mr.
Burkart
As we enter a new school year, I must explain a few things to ensure that
we have a safe and enjoyable experience together.
Please remember that this is not only a classroom, but a science lab.
There are several items in this room that if used improperly can result
in injury or harm to yourself and others. Please
use extreme caution when working in this room. In order to prevent such
incidents from happening, I ask that you follow these simple rules:
1. Listen—Sit patiently
while the teacher, teacher aid, or another student is talking.
2. Participate—The more
involved you are in class, the more you may enjoy the class.
3. Cooperate—During labs
the teacher may be involved with another student, so if you understand and
someone else doesn’t help them out.
4. Respect your fellow
classmates and their property.
5. Behave
appropriately—Immature or inappropriate behavior in a science classroom could
lead to you or someone else getting hurt.
6. Always be prepared for
class—Not bringing the necessary materials to class repeatedly will result in
a classroom detention.
7. No food or drinks in the
classroom.
8. Cheating will not be
tolerated.
*These
guidelines may be altered depending on the situations that may arise throughout
the school year.
Citizenship…
Citizenship grades are given out by each teacher to give parents an idea
of your child’s behavior in the classroom.
The rank of 1-5 in listed in the school handbook, please read over this
section with your child/parent. The accumulation of three detentions will result
in a drop in the student’s citizenship grade.
Cheating will result in a maximum citizenship grade of 4 for that
quarter.

Signatures…
Throughout the year, you may receive notes from the teacher, papers,
tests, and office forms that I would like to have signed and returned to school.
I use this as a chance to keep parents informed of student progress,
school events, and an open invitation for communication.
Homework…
Homework will vary throughout the year.
Students have time during class, study hall, help available after school
with Project Success, or morning passes by request.
Assignments are posted daily in the classroom and available on the
Homework Hotline at 223-8147 after

Progress
Reports…
Grades are available online and progress reports will be sent home at
midterms. You may request a progress
report at any time by contacting me via email or phone. (dburkart@perued.net
or 223-0301)
Grading
Scale…
The grading scale used is set up by the school and is available in the
student handbook/planner. Extra credit is available by request.
Absenteeism…
If you are absent, your parents must contact the school.
Homework can be requested at this time to be picked up by your parent or
sent home with another student.
Classroom
Detentions…
Classroom detentions are issued for behavior, missing assignments and
coming to class unprepared. Students
who receive a detention must have detention slip signed by parent/guardian and
returned to school. For every third
missing assignment a detention will be assigned.
Students can complete the missing assignments, get the required signature
and will not have to serve the detention. Every
third day unprepared for class, (i.e. forgot homework, notebook, pencil) a
classroom detention will be assigned. Students
have the option of serving the detention before school or after school.
Once the time and date has been assigned it cannot be changed without
parent contact.
