Reading Lab

The Reading Lab is in its second year at Northview Elementary School.  The purpose of the program is to improve the reading of those students in reading lab.  Students are taught at their instructional level, which may be different than their grade level.  Mr. Robert Mellen, a 18 year veteran teacher of special education is the instructor.

Students are recommended by their teachers for consideration in Reading Lab.  Students are reviewed by a team who decides which students will participate in the program.  The team looks at grades, standardized test scores, Reading Lab teacher given test scores and teacher recommendations when making their decisions.  The team meets quarterly to review current participants and to look at new candidates for the program.

Project Success Program

Northview School offers an after school program called Project Success, formerly called S.T.A.R..  Students are recommended by classroom teachers and a team selects students who will participate in the program.  The main goal is to help students become more successful by completing homework, studying for tests, and getting the assistance they need to accomplish these tasks.  As a result of this program, we hope that the students will develop better study skills, raise their grades, and be more successful in school.

This program meets Mondays through Thursdays from 3:30-4:05 p.m. in grade level wing.  It does not meet on school holidays or early dismissal days.  Transportation is the responsibility of the parent or guardian.

The students are required to attend every day unless they are absent from school.  If they have been in school, but are absent from Project Success, they must give the supervising teacher a written excuse from their parent or guardian.  If there is no excuse for their absence, you will be notified by letter.  After three unexcused absences or disciplinary reports, the student will be dismissed from this program
